Imagine a daily record with production date, machine cell, part number, inspected quantity and accepted quantity. Start by checking duplicates, missing values and whether accepted quantity ever exceeds inspected quantity. Then calculate first-pass yield as 100 × accepted quantity ÷ inspected quantity, explicitly defining what counts as first-pass and how rework is treated.
For capability analysis, confirm sample subgrouping, measurement-system adequacy, specification limits, distribution assumptions and the difference between Cpk and Ppk. A chart that looks convincing is not proof that the process is capable.
Decision checklist
- Data confidentiality: check employer approval before uploading production data or customer records to outside services.
- Reproducibility: verify if the same steps can be rerun next week.
- Traceability: preserve formula logic, source files and transformation history.
- Costs: compare actual licensing and API usage, not just advertised trial labels.
