Good starting tasks
AI can help draft technical instructions, search standards that you later verify, explain scripts, analyze example datasets, generate checklists and document experiments.
CAD and geometry
Check the geometry yourself: coordinate systems, dimensions, units, surface continuity and tolerances. AI-generated geometry is not automatically manufacturable or dimensionally correct.
Production and quality analysis
For SPC, yield, process capability and root-cause analysis, verify the formulas and data provenance. Never accept an unsupported numeric conclusion merely because it appears confident.
Machine integration boundaries
For CNC, robotics and machine programs, use simulation, peer review, collision checks and controlled approvals. Do not send automatically generated machine commands directly to production equipment without validation.
Data governance
Never upload proprietary drawings, customer records or manufacturing measurements into unauthorized AI services. Check your employer’s information-security requirements first.
How to evaluate technical tools
Test with anonymized samples, establish known-good answers and document whether the AI saves engineering time without introducing new risks. Start with reversible, low-risk workflows.
