How to use this tool
- Choose milling or turning and enter your own approved cutting parameters.
- Set cutter/work diameter, travel and pass count.
- Enter machine RPM limit and estimated setup/auxiliary time.
- Review actual speed if a spindle cap applies, then check the machine program independently.
Calculation method and formula
RPM = 1000 × cutting speed (m/min) ÷ [π × tool/work diameter (mm)]. Milling feed (mm/min) = RPM × teeth × feed per tooth. Turning feed = RPM × feed per revolution.
At Vc = 100 m/min and D = 10 mm, RPM ≈ 3183.10. A four-flute cutter at 0.05 mm/tooth produces ≈636.62 mm/min feed before any spindle limit.
What the calculation does not cover
- This is not a material-specific cutting-data recommendation or a CNC post-processor.
- Rapid moves, acceleration, probing, wheel dressing and tool changes are not explicitly simulated.
- Use the manufacturer's tooling data and machine operating limits before making real cuts.
Common questions
Does this calculator generate G-code?
No. It estimates process parameters and time only; it does not control machinery.
Why is the actual cutting speed lower than requested?
If the entered machine RPM ceiling is below theoretical RPM, the model caps the spindle and recalculates achieved cutting speed.
Engineering use: This calculator is a transparent estimate for its defined model; confirm units, applicability, standards and engineering decisions independently.
